Net distance in north-south direction 20−15=5 m To east 12m If D is displacement D=(√(12^2 +5^2 ))=(√(169))=13 m

$$\mathrm{Net}\:\mathrm{distance}\:\mathrm{in}\:\mathrm{north}-\mathrm{south} \\ $$$$\mathrm{direction}\:\mathrm{20}−\mathrm{15}=\mathrm{5}\:\mathrm{m} \\ $$$$\mathrm{To}\:\:\mathrm{east}\:\mathrm{12m} \\ $$$$\mathrm{If}\:\mathrm{D}\:\mathrm{is}\:\mathrm{displacement} \\ $$$$\:\:\:\:\:\mathrm{D}=\sqrt{\mathrm{12}^{\mathrm{2}} +\mathrm{5}^{\mathrm{2}} }=\sqrt{\mathrm{169}}=\mathrm{13}\:\mathrm{m} \\ $$
